In a Word, My Australian Cattle Dog Is…

Challenging!

Best Characteristics of the Breed

Extremely intelligent

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Breed

Very territorial. Will not let strangers come into our home or our yard.

When, Where and How I Got My Australian Cattle Dog:

We got our ACD from a breeder in Oklahoma. She was only five weeks old when we got her. She is very much a member of the family. We haven't told her yet she is a dog!!!! I am amazed at how intelligent she is. We even find ourselves spelling words in front of her and she seems to have even figured some of those out already. She is an amazing dog and keeps us very entertained with the things she does. We love her very much!!!!!!

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Very territorial and intelligent. The territorial issue is something I wish we could eliminate. It's very difficult when we have guests. She just won't warm up to anyone being in our home or our yard. She is just the opposite when I take her places. She is very friendly with everyone, even the same people she is very aggressive with when they come to our home.

Advice

  • ACDs are great dogs. Our dog was not raised around small children, but I know people that have small children that have them and they are great.
