When, Where and How I Got My Yorkshire Terrier
Our little guy wandered into our lives through word of our daughter. His Master had died, and he was in need of a loving home. That he got, but he in return has made our home a HOME. The hair that he had lost from mourning has grown back, and we are very careful of his front leg, being told that he had a pin put in it. He is so active, but tires out early. He was around 7 yrs old when we got him two years ago. We neither one would part with our little homemaker ever, even though we are in our 80's. He is here to stay. I can't see our lives without him now.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
He is pretty close to perfect. Let's put it this way, we need no carpet cleaners. I remember so well the day my daughter delivered him to us. He very proudly strutted as if to say, "look at me, I'm beautiful." He could have had an American flag tied to his little tail, because I'm sure that I heard a loud marching band following him. Anyway, we noticed that he had a slight limp in his strut. No matter - as soon as we held him, he was ours.
We thought it best to keep his name as it was. It isn't very wise to change it when they are that age. You would never know that he was seven years old.
How do you thank someone for such a wonderful gift? His Master was dead. Maybe I should put it in my husband's words: "He is heaven sent."
We live in a country atmosphere, and are at the top of an existing hill. Taking turns to take him on his daily strolls down and up again, we notice that he tires more easily - especially coming back up. He tries so hard, but about half way back his little tongue is hanging a bit more than it used to. So he gets picked up and is carried the rest of the way home. He's such a trooper.
I have been put on oxygen 24-7 four months ago. I can still walk with him down the hill, once in a while. My husband starts our vehicle and goes to the bottom, to meet us coming down. Thankfully, the both of us get a ride home.
This little critter seems to sense everything about me and my problem. This I swear to, and so does my mate. Zak knows when the PRICE IS RIGHT television show comes on, that it's time for me to sit down. This is usually the time that I take my nebulizer. Whatever I am doing, he will stare at me and then at our couch. Believe it or not, it is true. It might be the certain sound of that program coming on, I don't know. I choose to think that he just knows. Another instance I have with him, is when I get ready to go somewhere he knows. He never enters my bathroom, (because he thinks he will get a bath) but just let me get my lipstick (mild color) out, and he'll come scrambling. His ears are perfect. With him, I don't fear strangers snooping around. Regardless whether it is daytime or night, he will certainly awaken you if need be. Before we got Zak, I was seriously contemplating buying a gun. It got scary, listening on radio and television about all of the crime happenings, not only does crime happen in the city. We were also thinking of purchasing a security system. No need for that, we are so thankful.
Advice
- Just return their love.
- Feed him good food, along with some exercise.
- Of course take him to the veterinarian, regularly, they are not prone to ailments, it is just a good idea.
- Show them plenty of affection, they in return will smother you with theirs.
- We can always tell when our little Yorkie wants a love or a kiss. Yes! we kiss him, right smack on top of his head. He knows that it is a sign of affection, and lickingly returns it.
- I really don't know what else to advise you on. The main thing, is to always love them. Let them know that you sincerely care for them. You will be rewarded in so many ways.
