When, Where and How I Got My Yorkshire Terrier
I got my teacup Yorkie from a breeder about two months after I'd had a miscarriage. I needed someone to hold, and she fit the bill. She was the runt of the litter and the sassiest of the bunch. I knew she was mine as soon as I laid eyes on her!
Now, I have two beautiful boys who love that baby girl as much as I do! We affectionately call her "The rat" "Blue girl" and "Bell". She's the best!
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Brassy. She bosses other dogs around who are exponentially bigger than she is. She was very difficult to housebreak, though. For goodness sake, she still piddles on the floor occasionally.
Her teeth are pretty bad. If I don't get in there and clean them, the calculus builds up terribly.
Advice
- Don't use a piddle pad - she piddled so much more in the house when I used one. After I got rid of it, she's much better about going outside.
- Clean your Yorkie's teeth weekly. My dog is only 3.5 lbs, so I couldn't find a toothbrush small enough for her. I literally just use my thumbnail and scrape the tartar off of her teeth once a week. It's easy to do and I don't hurt her like I used to when I tried to push a big toothbrush in her mouth.
