When, Where and How I Got a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
A year ago April, from a breeder. Our pure breed Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has died the year previous. We loved Mr Ted, but he was a big dog - weighed forty five pounds and we wanted a smaller dog.
Tasha, female mixed breed, was previously adopted and whoever had her did not treat her well - she is, as a result timid and does not like any males. She weighs twenty five lbs. We purchased her.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Tasha is very sweet. She has beautiful eyes, eyelashes that most women would die for, a non-shedding non allergenic coat, soft curly hair in a light golden colour. She loves to be in the car and sits in the back seat - will travel without complaint for hours. She does have an overbite, which is charming but in the long run will be costly since she will have a build up of tartar on her teeth. She is crate trained.
Advice
- A purebred Soft Coated Wheaten can be very difficult to train - they are headstrong and once they decide they want or need something there is no deterring them.
- They do jump up - it is called the "wheaten-greetin" - although very affectionate can be frightening to children and strangers.
- They are intelligent, and although you may not think so, watch your every move - they know you better than you know yourself.
- They are a young adults dog, they have tremendous energy, they are cool and reserved but very loyal.
