When, Where and How I Got My West Highland Terrier
Twenty years ago I swore off dogs as pets because of the pain of their loss. I bought a beautiful egg, she is now a spoiled cockatoo that I love dearly. She'll live to be 80-100 years, problem solved! Not quite... my son became engaged to a wonderful young woman about 8 years ago and as an engagement gift, he purchased a Westie puppy for her. I must say I am such a good Mom. After they married they decide to move to an apartment to save for a home. Can you guess... no pets allowed. So Mom was talked into taking Miss Maggie, just until they bought a home.
Its been 8 years and Miss Maggie is not going anywhere!
I'd Describe My Dog As…
The best! She is definitely an adult's pet. I still own my cockatoo, who is my baby, as well as 3 other smaller birds. My son lives with me temporarily while he modernizes his home, its been 2 years and during which time he rescued a newborn liter of 5 kittens that are still with us and will probably leave with him within the year. Miss Maggie has adjusted quite well, but I will say that she definitely will not miss the cats. She has NO patience for the cats when they disagree (any growling or roughhousing is not permitted when Maggie Mae is around.
Advice
- Not really a good pet for small children. They don't have the patience for quick moving objects.
- They are excellent pets for adult singles, especially seniors.
- They travel well and they love walks, squirrels and chipmunks.
- They are hams for pictures.
- Maggie has an entire wardrobe. She loves her necklaces, t-shirts, swim suits. She also has her own pool.
- If you have a lot of love to give, and plenty of patience for the terrible twos, then the Westie is for you.
