When, Where and How I Got My Siberian Husky

All our huskies were given to us by owners who gave up as they are not an easy breed to keep as they are very strong, need lots of exercise, space, and loads of patience in dealing with them.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Wolflike. Loup even howls like a wolf. He is a Malamute but there wasn't a Malamute selection on this site. Loup looks like a wolf whereas the two Siberians are reddish brown in colour with a smaller build.

Tanner and Alex are red Siberians. Alex is quite aged now but used to be quite lively. He has a nice temperament with people but has been known to kill a few cats.

Tanner is ten and still raring to go. He just had an encounter with a little girl's small dog recently which wasn't pleasant. That instinct in them is impossible to change just like cats killing birds.

Advice

  • Don't get this breed unless you're prepared to take on the risks of small dog encounters, or the huskies escaping which often happens if they break off their leash or chain or dig under a fence.
  • They are good with people but do still seem to rely on instinct more than brain power so be ready for that.
  • I like them but I'm more a cat person and my hubby walks the dogs and takes most of the responsibility for them. They keep him in good shape with all that walking and yanking as they're very strong.
  • I don't recommend this breed for a family with small children as they are very big, strong and unpredictable.
