When, Where and How I Got My Rottweiler
I purchased Baby a few months after my Rottie, Precious, was failing from kidney disease. I had Precious for 9 years. She was 12 when she died. Baby was an 8 week old puppy.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Loving, fun, funny, strong, excellent as a guard dog. Baby was the third Rottie I had and I love this breed. They, especially the females, are very even tempered, great with children, although small children must be monitored around these dogs due to the size of the dogs. I always felt safe with Baby as I lived alone and her mere presence, especially with strangers, was enough to make people respectful. Baby was easy to train and was excellent in the house. She was never a chewer of anything. However, she did have some issues with her skin and most recently her eyes and her lower spine and hips. I miss her although I know that she is no longer in pain and is at peace.
Advice
- Females, for me, are more even tempered. I may have just been lucky with the three I had.
- Rottweilers are excellent with children, but as with any large breed, or in fact any dog, they must be supervised.
- Being an owner of any dog must take the responsibility of training your dog for their protection and the protection of any child around a dog.
