When, Where and How I Got My Papillon

I had no interest in buying a dog when I saw an ad from a local breeder. Dory was born on my birthday, so how could I resist. She turned out to be the most affectionate, lovable dog.

She loves to play and when I'm busy I tell her I can't play now. She goes to her bed and lays there staring at me. She looked so sad when I couldn't play, I called the breeder and bought Dory's half-sister Chloe to be a playmate for her.

They get along wonderfully. They play together all the time, but they both still want me to play with them too, which I do.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Dory is timid and skittish around strangers, but very lovable at home. Chloe is just the opposite. She loves to be petted and loves to snuggle with people.

I hung sleigh bells on the door to teach them to ring the bells when they want to go out. Dory will sit by the door and patiently wait for me to notice her. Chloe will poke the bells with her nose. If I don't respond soon enough, Chloe will jump on the bells to really make them ring.

Dory is definitely a diva and Chloe is a clown.

Advice

  • Use bells on the door so they can tell you when they want to go out.
  • I give them a dog cookie when they "go" outside and not in the house. I gradually eliminate the cookies.
  • Give them lots of love and it will be returned a thousand times over.
  • When we visit the farmer's market, they both love the kids, but I don't know how they would be with children in the house.
  • Follow the advice on this website for obedience training and your life will be problem free.
