Answering the question "What kind of dog is she?"
When, Where and How I Got My Mixed-Breed Dog
Shadow was a pound puppy. I got her from the local animal shelter when she was about 10 weeks old. There was a $60 adoption fee.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Shadow is a pleaser. She is always there to greet you and make you feel wanted. She was the easiest to train of all my dogs and she is the most talented. She has been completely house broken from the first month I had her. We do not need a fence to keep her in the yard. She knows her boundaries and stays within them. She will not venture into the street to chase a squirrel or visit with a neighbor. She even chases deer to the edge of the property and then stops. I can leave a full plate of food on the coffee table and come back an hour later and it will still be there untouched. She is a hit with all my friends, even those who are not really dog lovers.
She is epileptic, but her epilepsy is controlled by medication and she has not had a seizure since she started taking medication at age 2.
Advice
- I would never, ever own anything but a mutt. Shadow is the fourth I have had and they have all been well mannered, easily trained, friendly and fun-loving. None have had serious health problems and all have been great around people large and small. While I would take into account the breeds that comprise the mix if considering a mutt (I am partial to Lab, Terrier or Collie mixes and would look for mixes of dogs that are generally even tempered and not high strung), a mutt would be my first and only choice when getting a dog.
