When, Where and How I Got My Maltese
I bought my dogs from 2 different breeders. One breeder sold sick dogs, when I found out, the dogs were almost a year old and I wouldn't give them up. Bonnie and Clyde are from one breeder, and Blanche from another. Blanche is perfectly healthy, but Bonnie was born with a congenital liver disease, and Clyde has a problem with his protein levels. I have spent hundreds of dollars keeping my dogs alive!!
I bought my Maltese from breeders in southern Arizona
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Each one of the dogs has a different personality. Clyde, our male is shy with strangers, when he gets to know you he can lick you until you can't stand it. He has a rope twice his size, he loves to have you or anyone throw the rope, and he will retrieve it.
Bonnie we feel is the brightest of all 3. She learns very quickly. Her favorite past time is you lying on the floor, and she loves to jump on and off. Blanche just wants to be held (all day if we would allow it)
I explained their medical problems above. All three were trained to go on puppy pads; living in AZ is difficult with snakes, and Valley Fever, they do go out and run around in our back yard. We have no dirt, so it is more difficult to get Valley Fever.
Advice
- The best advice I can give, is to know your breeder. Just because you go to their home and see the puppies, it doesn't mean they have healthy dogs. If I ever get another dog I would ask the breeder for their vets name, and check with the vet to find out if the parents are healthy, and there are no congenital problems.
- We do not have small children, but I believe that if the child or children are under 8-10 a Maltese is not a good dog for children. Children not intentionally, can abuse a small dog.
