When, Where and How I Got My Lhasa Apso
I purchased both of my dogs when they were both about 10 weeks old. They are not from the same litter. They are 3 weeks apart and loyal companions. They get along well with my 12 year old Shih Tzu. I have always had Lhasas and they were wonderful therapy dogs, so I know how to handle them. They all went to obedience school to be therapy dogs. I've had four of them and all were wonderful – they even had casting calls at the theatre. If you are the alpha and know how to handle Lhasas, they love kids. But, if you let them rule you they probably wouldn't be good with kids.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
My soulmates, funny, very devoted, independent, mischievous, easily trained, potty trained about 8 weeks, great watch dogs, friendly and loveable. Mine all made wonderful therapy dogs, were in the humane society calendar and even the newspaper.
Advice
- They need to know that you are the alpha or they will rule you and your home.
- They are strongly independent, almost cat-like, but are so devoted and easily trainable. You should take them through training for the basic commands though.
- They need to be groomed a lot if you want them to look beautiful and be healthy. I take all of mine every 3 to 4 weeks to get groomed. Brushing is a must – I keep mine in the long coat, as they are very beautiful. I am that devoted to them to bear that expense.
- If you can't afford to take care of them properly then this isn't the dog for you.
