When, Where and How I Got My Labrador Retriever
I purchased my lab as a puppy from a breeder in Pennsylvania in 2002.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
My guardian angel. She helped me through several emotional traumas in my life. She loves me unconditionally. She is the best companion I could ever ask for. Her loyalty is unbelievable. She loves all the adventures we go on.
She was very easy to train. She goes everywhere with me in public and people have complimented me on how well behaved she is. Some said better than their 5 year old children. Her personality is one of a kind. She loves to talk to me and can be bossy at times when she doesn't get her way. Her facial expressions are priceless.
She was hindered with health issues since she was 2 years old and you would never know. She is always happy and ready to live life. I would not trade her of anything and I never regret spending thousands of dollars on her medical expenses.
She developed allergies at 2 years old, a deadly fungus disease in 2009 and now liver failure in January of 2010 when they did not give her much hope. Well its June, 2010 and she is still happy and energetic. Apparently, she doesn't realize she's dying. Her and I have beaten the odds thus far.
Advice
- Labs are by far the best breed to have if you have family, love to travel and are adventurous. The breed will have no problem keeping up.
- Their health issues are their only downside and they can be costly. I most certainly will be getting another one, but may consider a lab mix in hopes to avoid their genetic health issues.
