When, Where and How I Got My Greyhound
Henry is my second Greyhound after being a small dog lover before I adopted my first one. They are great dogs. Henry was a winner at the track until he was injured; then he was expendable. I needed to have one of his toes amputated, but he was patient and loving through all the pre and post-surgery pain. After six years he still has nightmares, running and crying in his sleep. I've taken him to fenced places, but he just looks at me instead of running. I think he only wants to go home to his bed or to the car where he takes up the entire back seat. He would happily live in the car as long he got to take long walks too
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Very adaptable. He loves to get in the car and go on vacation. He marches through the hotel hallways like the seasoned traveler that he is. When I leave him in a strange room, he settles down and goes to sleep and never makes any noise.
Perceptive. On our walks he can identify the people who are likely to pet him and goes right for them. The others he ignores.
Quick learner. He got the housebreaking business and the routine of the house down on his first couple days.
Advice
- Don't think they are hyper dogs - just adopt one!
- One caveat - they are a bit klutzy and can knock over a small child accidentally
