In a Word, My Great Pyrenees Is…

Very lovable and she makes my day a lot brighter when I get up in the AM.

Best Characteristics of the Breed

Their white coats. They look like a big giant cotton balls.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Breed

They have to be brushed on a daily basis and they shed a lot.

When, Where and How I Got My Great Pyrenees

I got my Great Pyrenees this past Feb. as a Valentines gift for my husband. We had a Great Pyrenees when we were stationed in Hohenfels, Germany and then we moved to Fort Richardson, AK. When my husband got Medically Discharged from the ARMY we moved back to Florida and within a year she had heartworms and at the time we didn't have the money to treat her so instead of her suffering we put her down which was the sadest day of our lives. I was just looking on petfinder and typed in the kind of dog that I was looking for and there was a lady in Lakeland, FL that had one for adoption. The next day we drove to Lakeland.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

I would describe Princess as a dog that had been abused by her former owners and when I adopted her she did have a few accidents in the house but I was very patient and loved on her and would tell her that it was ok I wasn't mad. Now when she has to go out she comes to the side of my bed and stares at me and then I know she has to go out. Princess doesn't have any medical problems. She is a big giant cotton ball.

Advice

  • They have a lot of hair.
  • They are good with older kids and some smaller kids but you should watch them very closely.
  • They are very overprotective of their owners.
