When, Where and How I Got My Golden Retriever
When my 16 year old shepherd/Lab mix was dying of cancer, I could not comprehend myself without a dog to love and take care of. I was looking on a Pet finder website and saw Golden puppies for sale. I went to see them and picked out Beau right away, although I had to wait three weeks to pick him up. At the time of bringing him home he was 9 1/2 weeks old.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Wonderful. He had one accident in the house when I could not get to the door fast enough. He has not had an accident in the house since, I put him on a regular potty schedule. He has no medical problems and the vet says he's very healthy. He steals shoes, socks, and the other dog dishes when the dogs are finished eating if I do not get there first. He even has taken the socks off my husbands foot, never to chew, but to run around the house with a rooor sound as if to say chase me, looking over his shoulder all the time to make sure your behind him. He's very loving and comes often during the day just for a pet. At that time he scrunches himself into you trying to get as close as he can, resting his head against you.
Advice
- This dog loves everyone, except the vet, and would be a wonderful family pet.
- Children can get close to him without fear.
- My advice to a new owner is to never scold this dog as their feelings get hurt very easily, and the dog could get ruined and confused as to what you want.
- Its best to reward good behavior and ignore bad behavior, that way you will have a loving and wonderful pet. With reward they are willing to please and will stand on their heads to do this.
- Beau loves his toys, his other pet (another golden mix) and his many cat friends - which he licks and cleans whenever he gets the chance.
