Dog's Name & Age
Jean Claude 8 years old
In a Word, My French Bulldog Is…
A Character. He has a big dog in a little dog's body personality.
Best Characteristics of the Breed
Lovable. They love everyone but can tend to be rough around children.
Most Challenging Characteristics of the Breed
Stubborn. Jean Claude will lay down anywhere if he doesn't want to walk.
When, Where and How I Got My French Bulldog
I got my frenchie from an amazing breeder called Rock n Roll Frenchies. I got him when he was 12 weeks old and 4 pounds. The breeder was extremely particular about who purchased her Frenchies and I only co-owned him until I showed proof of him being fixed.
Each year the breeder has a family reunion in Western Pennsylvania where everyone gets together to hang out for the day. Imagine 30 to 40 Frenchies all running around grunting and snorting.
I got my Frenchie as a birthday present but he wasn't a surprise. He was the runt of the litter and I had my choice between him and one of his cousins and I chose him.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Lovable with a mind of his own. Frenchies are known to be stubborn but Jean Claude takes it to a whole different level. He was very easy to housebreak, but not as easy to train. i.e. his "sit" stance is only a half sit - he refuses to sit down completely.
He is a little dog with a huge personality. In the park, he only plays with the dogs that are at least 30 to 40 pounds bigger than he is and they are always taller! His favorite thing to do is to "walk" dogs on leash that are larger than he is. No one told him that he is only 21 pounds. ;)
He did have a soft elongated palate which is common and had surgery when he was 2 and his breathing has been great ever since. He also has allergies but I give him Allerplex and Immuplex by Standard Process - one powdered capsule each day and he has not had any kind of allergic breakout since. He also eats Wellness Simple Solutions and Merrick organic dog food.
They like to be active but can't tolerate extreme heat or cold and their feet can be very sensitive. They should always be hydrated and even in the winter, you should carry a water bottle with you.
- I would say French Bulldogs are good pets for people who have time to spend with their dog. Frenchies are not the type of dogs that like to be left alone. They are people dogs and usually prefer people to dogs.
- They like to be touched and prefer human contact to almost anything else. They are lovable, funny, and are always quite the character.
- They are high maintenance and can have some health issues. If you want a dog that is low maintenance - this is not the dog for you!!!!!!
