When, Where and How I Got My Doberman Pinscher

I got Sarah when she was 8 weeks old. We lived in Minnesota. I had fell in love with a doberman at the shelter and would visit him everyday, but my husband didn't want a big dog. I was determined to get Sheay, the doberman, however when I went to visit him be was adopted. I was so hurt, and my husband knew it. He then said I could get a puppy. I checked the paper daily and then I saw an ad for reds, and that exactly what I wanted. I drove for ever to get to the farm in December in Minnesota weather. When I arrived at the farm I saw her and fell in love.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Friendly, but protective. She was so stubborn that when I had her ears cut and strapped up and time I took them down she would shake them down. A breeder in the cities taped her ears until she was seven months old and then stopped because she just wouldn't let them stand. At four years old her ears stood and boy was she beautiful. She would play golf with me, go get the ball and place it. I would hit it and she would fetch it. Sarah was very easy to housebreak, it only to three weeks. At twelve years old Sarah was diagnosed with bone cancer and died within three months.

Advice

  • You must take your dog to training when he is a puppy by twelve weeks old. Let people pet the dog regularly in order to socialize it.
