When, Where and How I Got My Dachshund

We got our first Doxie, a puppy, when my husband had surgery, and needed to think about something else. It worked. Summer and Joey were also puppies. Sadie we rescued from a puppy farm. She did not know what grass was. We might be taking in older Doxie's, ones that are no longer wanted. Sadie is a love, just needed a home, and learn that there are people out there who really cares.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Our girls do not have medical problems. And No, they are not easy to potty train, (esp when it rains). As long as our door stays open, they will go outside. Their personalities are all different, the Smooth Hair wants the attention, Wire Hair is more on their own, and the Long Hair wants all the attention, and loves to be spoken to and petted.

Advice

  • Doxies are awesome, but needs to be careful with their backs. Small children wants to pick them up and gives hugs. The problem is that kids don't know how to pick these dogs up the right way, and will cause serious problems. Older kids are better, at least they will understand.
  • We give our dogs weekly baths, and comb them out, We trim their nails, as needed.
