When, Where and How I Got My Dachshund
I decided to get her as pup after losing my 38 year old son, husband was working away. I needed a companion and she was the answer. Kept me busy and loved me endlessly. Still, the feeling is mutual... with me and my husband! I purchased her from a mini Dachshund breeder. Chelsi was 8 weeks old!
I'd Describe My Dog As…
A wonderful addition to our home - we needed companionship and we have all we need in our long lil beautiful weenee! Eight pounds, lap size, and loves to cuddle & play as well. Loves to hunt. Have had no trouble with her digging holes like we had heard might happen. Does have quite a burglar bark at strange sounds or someone approaching - but to us this is a good thing. No medical problems at all. Easy to housetrain, did used piddle pads a lil - but mostly trained by letting her out on leash or just in yard. Hears the word "treat" and is ready to come running to me. Did bark quite a bit at a year old, but much better, now. Does see wildlife in yard to bark at and wants to hunt, we think!!
Advice
- We have 9 year old granddaughter, who loves her Chelsi and she returns the love right back!
- Gets along with other small dogs, wants to be the boss though.
- I would recommend a doxie to anyone wanting a very faithful, loving friend!!
- We had her spayed when she was old enough.
- Has a tendency to get excited when people come in and she wants to jump on them - but getting much better at that also.
