In a Word, My Dachshund Is…

My friend, champion, nurse, guard dog.

Best Characteristics of the Breed

When I first got Annie she was shy. I trained her to help me do things.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Breed

Training her to get my medicines for me. She is my nurse.

When, Where and How I Got My Dachshund

I got Annie back in 1995 when she was 5 years old. Petsmart was having a rescue sale and I wanted an older dog. I adopted her right on the spot. My niece had worked at Petsmart and she called to let me know about an older dog. I had to put my long-haired Chihuahua to sleep 3 months earlier and I couldn't imagine not having another dog.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Annie was very easy to train and she was housebroken already. She is a very caring dog, easy to please. She doesn't have any health issues. She's very healthy. She's a very protective dog and very laid back dog. She takes things in stride. Annie loves the outdoors unless it's raining or snowing. Then she hurries about does her business and she's back in the house again. She does little tricks. When my brother comes over she dances for him. She gets up on her hind legs and walks around. Sometimes she looks like she's smirking.

Advice

  • Daschunds are very good with children and other dogs. They make an excellent family dog.
