 Love Is a Boston Terrier

Where are MY presents?

Dog's Name & Age:

Bailey aka BaGirl 9 years old 25 lbs. soaking wet!

In a Word, My Boston Terrier Is…

The sweetest most patient of dogs... loving and happy, content by my side.

Best Characteristics of the Breed

Little barking, learns quickly, friendly and easy going.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Breed

My Boston is always hungry! Tends to be jealous so socialize early on.

When, Where and How I Got My Boston Terrier

Kids were getting older. Always wanted a terrier. Husband wasn't crazy about the idea, because he is not much of an animal person; or wasn't, till Bailey arrived. A friend had adult female/male Bostons and their pups were born in May of 2000. I knew I had to have one after seeing the huge litter of 8. We took her home at about 6 weeks and it was love plus more from the moment she entered our lives! She has won my husband over and he adores her, too. We had decided NOT to buy from a pet store and were lucky enough to hear about a home birth.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

Ideal family. Bailey was my 1st dog, so I wasn't sure what to expect. She has been such a pleasure- I thought all dogs behaved that way! Ba is curious and friendly, loving and funny. She was easily housebroken, through crate training and pad use. Ba is also a hero! She alerted me to a pan accidentally left boiling on the stove. Ba is joyful and has brought more light into our lives than any of us could have imagined. Her personality has led friends to find their own added happiness with Boston Terriers. Bailey is my 4th born, the best 4 legger ever! Even my cat loving sister thinks Ba is tops! So I'd say Bailey is charming too. She is a bit older now, has more trouble seeing and needs medicine for her joints. But, it seems, each year of age adds more goodness to her personality. Ba still enjoys chasing balls and eating ice on hot summer days. We live in the south, and are careful she doesn't get overheated when playing outdoors. Most Bostons will play past point of exhaustion and that is a big NO NO! With age comes a few small funny things; more gas, more frequent sneezes that sound like she's choking, but are common for Bostons... more frequent potty breaks - nothing too challenging. Love is a Boston Terrier!

Advice

  • Boston Terrier - a wonderful choice for any 1st time dog person or family. Teach early, be firm but loving, consistent with rules. That should bring years of love and fun to anyone... Take care, when still a pup, to clean the ears, leash train and socialize. Once older, a Boston can become stubborn, if not taught early. See a vet regularly and make sure to keep up with eye exams. Carrots make for great teeth cleaning! Bostons are prone to eye trouble, so be aware. It's a good idea to put a few dollars aside, each month, because age may bring a few more health problems... Feed quality food!
