When, Where and How I Got My Border Collie:

A local newspaper had an ad for a dog needing a home. George was 5 years old then. His owners were immigrating to Australia. Their other dogs were easily adopted but George had a limp. He hurt his paw a while back jumping rocks at the beach.

We always wanted a Border Collie and here he was. I was worried at first because I had young children at the time. When the owners said they would put him down if we did not take him, we did not want that to happen.

It was as if George knew what was happening. We took him in our van. He barked goodbyes to his old owners and he has been the greatest dog I have ever seen.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

George is friendly, gorgeous, brave and cuddly. He is my hero because wherever I go he follows me. He is my shaggy hero. I wish he could talk to me with words but his movements and facial expressions help me understand what he needs and wants from me. I believe he understands me more than I understand him. He is patient with me when that happens. I love the way he turns his head as if he is saying, "OK! I will try to understand you. Just tell it to me one more time."

I love his knowing eyes and his gentle hugs.

I have had so many dogs in the past. George is the best, the breed is the best. I love him very much and that says it all.
