When, Where and How I Got My Border Collie:
I got my first border collie when I was a kid. My parents got 2 puppies for us to train as sheep dogs. I have never had another breed since then. Most of my border collies I have found in newspaper ads. If you ask the right questions this is often the cheapest way. There are also tons of Border Collie rescue centers that are a great option.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Duece was super easy to house break. He had one accident and that was it. He is the sweetest and smartest dog I have ever had the privilege of owning. He is really laid back but when its time to get to work he does. He is not very vocal unless it comes to his food bowl. He will not let any other dogs near it. He also is obsessive about water hoses. Dixie was a little harder to train. She is a little bit "Ditsy" as my brother calls her. She is still pretty smart. She is the hyper one out of the bunch. She gets restless easy and some how manages to escape out of any where. She is very mischievous. Chase is Duece and Dixie's puppy. He is now 8 weeks old and the dog I am keeping to take to college with me. He is really playful and loves interaction but at the same time is content with doing his own thing. All 3 of my dogs are healthy and happy.
Advice
- I have never had a problem with Border Collies and my nieces and nephew. It is important to introduce them to different things when they are young.
- They are very active and can be destructive if you don't watch exercise them. They are eager to please and hard workers. Give them a job to do and they will be happy dogs.
- They are super smart and pretty easy to train.
- They are not happy in small spaces with nothing to do. They are can be very hyper.
- They loving herding things, inluding my nephews four wheeler so be aware of this.
- They can get obsessive of things. With mine, its water hoses.
