When, Where and How I Got My Border Collie:

When I was about 5 years old we went to a shelter to get a pet. I was holding Butch, who was just a small puppy. He managed somehow to wiggle out of my arms and in the parking lot, ran under are car and stayed there. It took about 1/2 hr for us to be able to get him as he would move at every attempt. We were finally able to get him and bring him home.

I'd Describe My Dog As…

The best dog I ever had. When I was growing up I had a younger brother and we would play on the patio. Very seldom did we have Butch on a leash. If we tried to get off the patio as mom would be in the house, Butch would circle the patio and push us back on with his nose. If this didn't work he would alert mom, by barking, that we were trying to leave. Very protective, but also very friendly, he knew the mailman by sight, and would let him enter to deliver mail. But if anyone else approached the patio they were in big trouble! Smart. Then in the fall Butch decided he wanted to explore the area. He went missing for about 2 months and we got reports of him being all over the area. Every time we went there he was gone. Even the local dog catcher would fill us in on sightings. Eventually after 2 months we were able to get him back home. That spring there were a lot of black and white border collie mixed dogs birthed in our neighborhood. The neighbor with the poodle was not happy!
