When, Where and How I Got My Border Collie:
We got Angus as a puppy, more than 5 years ago. We adopted him from a collie rescue shelter in West New Jersey. I found his picture on a website. He was called "Rowdy," and as soon as I saw him I knew he was the one. We had wanted a cocker spaniel. Angus was a mix - completely unique looking and acting. When he met us, he bowed his head to be petted. He would walk alongside us down the street without a leash. He was so good. As soon as he got used to us, he made his true feelings known.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
He's really only part border collie, part cocker spaniel. I wish he could reproduce because it's an ideal mix. He's as smart as a border collie but not as hyperactive, and cute like a spaniel but not as willfull as a spaniel. He's amazing with our two young children. He was there when we brought both babies home, and has taken it in stride. He doesn't quite get that these two terrors will one day be friends of his, but in the meantime he has the patience of a doggy saint. (He also doesn't mind that they are often covered in food.)
Advice
- If you can find a mixed breed like Angus, snap him up. He's the perfect dog in every way.
