When, Where and How I Got My Bichon Frise
I got Charlie from a breeder when he was about 9 weeks old.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
A very cute, sweet, gentle-natured little fuzzball. Charlie does have some health issues-which is not typical of the breed. He was diagnosed with Addison's disease when he was 5-so he gets a percorten injection once a month, & he developed high blood pressure about a year ago with bp related glaucoma. He lost his right eye because the vets weren't able to get the pressure down in time, but his left eye is fine now & we keep those issues under control with meds & eye drops(who knew me & my dog would be taking the same meds!) I never knew there was such a thing as a canine ophthalmologist until last year. Needless to say, I see more of my vet than I do some relatives. But you'd never know(except for the missing eye) by watching him he's got any issues-he's a playful, happy little guy!
Advice
- Bichons are great with kids-Charlie is very happy if our morning walk takes us to the corner when the neighborhood kids are waiting for the bus.
- Its a very friendly breed. He's quite convinced anyone who comes to the house for any reason is there to see him.
- Always keep them on lead or leash when outside-they run!!!
- Be patient with the housetraining-they are rather slow to grasp the concept.
- Find a good groomer! I take Charlie every 6 weeks to keep him tidy-his groomer, Ray, is a bichon owner himself & is awesome with Charlie!
- I think the bichon is the best breed there is!
