When, Where and How I Got My Akita:
My German Shepard mix came from the Palatka Animal shelter a long time ago. At the time I adopted her she was the "office" dog and I think they might not have liked "losing" her. I was there because I found no animal in the local shelter that I wanted.
I'd Describe My Dog As…
Big is a great word to start with. Queenie dwarfs the other four dogs that we have. One is American Hound dog. Another is an Australian Shepard that is nearly all black on top with brown underneath. Another is their pup (we kept one). She is colored like her dad. The last is my oldest sons Shi-shu, that is quite small but has enough ambition to care for herself with the others.
Queenie guards our place. There is never any question of who is boss when she is present. There no unnecessary motion or movement when she is present. People occasionally ask why we have no door bell - well if you ever came near our door it would not be a question!
Advice
Queenie has been great with our family. She has been around every age group and has shown herself to be very well adjusted to any occurrence. We did nothing to "train" her - she is just a great smart dog!
