When I first got my dog and cat
Pokey Dog belonged to my little girl. However she was still a puppy when my little girl was about to give birth and decided she did not want two babies in the house.
Pokey and I were out walking last summer. We were passing a stretch of woods and met two of my friends walking the other way. We stopped to chat a moment. A kitten, half-starved and 2 or 3 months old, came out of the woods towards us. He walked right up to Pokey and us. So, I took it to the vet that morning for a check up and Tony has been with us since then. I told Pokey that the cat was her pet. They get along like brother and sister.
How my dog and cat became friends
(continued from above) They played together and often slept together. Later they were joined by the neighbor's small dog Toto (as in Dorothy's dog on the Wizard of Oz). They would all play together at times. When I take the dogs for a walk sometimes the cat comes along. Pokey and Toto have had puppies. I have one still left at home. The puppy, Precious, female, 2 1/2 months, loves her cat friend. Sometimes they lick each other. Precious also loves cat food. Sometimes if Precious is too excited, Tony will put out his paw and hold him at paw's length.
Lessons Learned
- If dogs and cats can get along, why is it that people have such a hard time getting along?
- Sometimes we all sleep together. My bed is small and it can get a little crowded.
