About My Dog's Seizures
They were somewhat severe in that he would seem paralyzed, but his legs twitched. His eyes bugged out and he panted very hard. He would lose control of his bladder and he would vomit afterward. Once he was through it, he acted as if nothing had happened and didn't have any lasting effects.
My Dog's Diagnosis and Treatment
I found that when I took my dog off all food with gluten and additives, he ceased to have seizures. I read a couple articles by HSUS, Dr. Fox, where he suggested that gluten could be a cause. This proved to be true in Seabiscuit's case. I am very careful that he only eats gluten free food or treats.
Advice
- You have to remain cool headed and very loving during the seizure. The first time it happened, and having no experience with this, my son was home and he petted Seabiscuit and spoke soothingly to him. This seems to shorten the duration. The more stroking and telling him 'it's okay' seemed to make the seizures pass more quickly.
