About My Dog's Seizures

My dog has experienced two episodes of what perfectly fits the description of a Grand Mal type seizure. Both episodes have occurred whilst I have been Mountain Biking in the forest at night. The seizures Last approximately 1 minute with a period of disorientation and apparent blindness for 2-3 minutes following. Typically the air temp is cool so I don't feel that heat is the main issue. He certainly is excitable and runs himself to the ground and I wonder if exertion is the cause?? My colleague wonders if it's the night lights as they are bright and he hasn't done this during the day when it is warmer??

My Dog's Diagnosis and Treatment

Following the first episode, all the vets test were clear. The second episode only happened last night. It was not confirmed that this was an epileptic episode but after seeing it a second time, it resembled exactly like a catatonic Grand Mal that I have seen before in people.

Advice

  • Unclear at this stage. Possible options:
  • Dont take him to the forest
  • See if day time rides are any different.
  • Ensure he doesn't get too hot.
  • Ensure he doesn't over exert himself
