About My Dog's Seizures

Gus' first seizure was in June. It affected his whole body violently and seemed to go one and on.

My Dog's Diagnosis and Treatment

The day after Gus' first seizure, I took him to the vet and they placed him on a low dose of phenobarbital. Everything was okay until November when he had a second seizure. This one wasn't quite as bad as the first. On New Year's Day he woke me up with a third seizure. It was violent but he came out of it okay, but soon had another--and then another. We rushed him to the vet and they gave him all sorts of anti-seizure medications, but he never did regain conscientiousness and eventually I had to make that awful decision. I miss him so!

The vet suspected Gus had a brain tumor.

Advice

  • Time the seizures. The vet asked how long the first one was and it seemed to me to have been 20 minutes, but I really have no idea how long it really was.
  • Stay calm and stay with your pet. Make sure he/she doesn't fall (off the bed) or otherwise bump into something that could hurt him/her.
