About My Adopted Dog

Tintin is loving and gentle, except with rabbits. Happy to meet strangers. Patient with children. Obedient, unless a rabbit scoots past. . . .

My Dog's Adoption Story

Tintin was 13 months old when we met her — when she found us! She had been bought by a teenager as a toy for his little sister; when Tintin was no longer a puppy, she was cast out. She had been terribly abused, and was malnourished so her teeth are pretty awful to look at. She roamed the neighborhood, scavenging and looking for love. She found us while we were visiting a friend who had retired and moved to Thailand. It was love at first sight, for all of us. After MUCH contact with the Swedish authorities, we had all the paperwork, shots, vet's clearance and transport in order. She arrived in Sweden in February 2001, spent 4 months in quarantine, and joined us in Lund in June 2001. Everyone who meets her adores her. Arguably the most expensive dog in Sweden, she has repaid every penny with interest! And she looks exactly the same at 10 as she did at 2.

Advice

  • It was expensive and complicated, but we would do it again in a minute.
  • I would have arranged the meeting with our 8-year-old Dachsund differently, but after 2 weeks they were buddies.
  • Don't hesitate; the life you save could well be your own!
