My Dog's Adoption Story
Me and my husband lost our dog of 11 years, a couple months went by and decided we missed not having a dog around the house. Went to the Animal shelter to see if any of them might be the one that needed to come home with us, my husband is in a wheelchair so he wanted to make sure his wheelchair didn't bother the puppy. We saw one that caught our eye, asked to get him out of the cage and see how he reacted to the chair, the puppy smelled a little and then put his feet up on my husbands and looked at him in the eye... he played a little around with him, he keep on getting on my husband's feet as if he was saying I'm the one... we told them to put him back in the cage we needed to look around some. We went around to each cage and none caught our eye, as we were headed back to the front, my husband said "what about that little blonde one, think we should go back over there again?" As soon as my husband came around the corner that little guy started barking... yes this was the one, we told them to put our last name on his tag and we'd come get him as soon as we could. They checked him out, gave him his shots and he was ours. Brought him home, wasn't for sure his name till mother-n-law came over and said this little guy sure has put the sparkle back in your eyes. SPARKY that's it... she was right - he did and still does put the sparkle in our eyes each morning we wake up to him... he is so loyal to my husband, we have never trained him, but if my husband is out of his wheelchair where ever it is, even if it's out in the sun when my husband get's in the pool, Sparky will beside it, no shade tree for him... Sparky is right there beside it, and nobody but me better touch it, or he comes unglued... it's very sweet. He loves the country life, running in the fields, chasing butterflies, playing with our other dog, but nothing is more important to him than to make sure his dad's wheelchair is taken care of. We talk about the first day Sparky picked us to be his new mom and dad and how he put his feet up on my husbands and it still melts our hearts. Adoption is so rewarding, we have adopted another dog after Sparky came into our lives, and yes that's another amazing story to be told. Faith is her name. I truly believe with all my heart that these little fur balls are so thankful to get a new home, they don t realize the smiles, and what joy they bring to us each day. They feel they own their lives to us, but really it's the other way - we owe our lives to them
Advice
- We say we didn't pick our dogs from the shelter they picked us.
- We have nothing but praise for those people that work the shelters.
- We have adopted two dogs [FRIENDS] and all I can say is everyone needs a friend in their lives, and these little guys are true friends.
- I could never write down all the things that they have brought into this house, our lives.
- I feel you do need to check out the breeds to see if it's the type of dog you would want, would fit into your lifestyle and go with that. But then just go with your heart.
