I have had dogs since the day I was born, and my current dog is one lucky dog!
I adopted Teddy from a friend of a friend. He was originally adopted from a shelter in Maryland. He was abused and abandoned and a nice couple adopted him. Most dogs that are abused tend to have behavioral problems, but not Teddy. He is the sweetest dog I have ever known.
The couple had to move somewhere where they did not take pets. My boyfriend's mother's friend, Dan, then adopted him. He moved in with my boyfriend and his mother with Teddy and Teddy quickly became attached to my boyfriend.
Dan moved to live with his sister in Maine, and since Teddy was moved around so much, on the way there he jumped out of the car on the highway (don't ask me how this happened!) and got hit by a car, with no injuries! Dan then moved back after a few months and gave the dog to my boyfriend, where he would try to escape and ran across four rows of highway traffic to the mall, never getting hit.
Now he lives with me and my boyfriend and he couldn't be happier. He is very socialized especially around other dogs and children. I would strongly suggest that anyone considering getting a dog to look in shelters first. I have had dogs from breeders and none of them have been as well behaved as Teddy. Don't be discouraged by horror stories of shelter dogs- just do your research and make sure you are ready to take on the responsibility and mishaps that come along with owning a pet.
