Tales of Rescued Dogs

I've owned dogs all my life. We've always had pure breed dogs. Yet most of them seemed to have serious health issues. SO I decided to get a mutt from a shelter when I bought my own home.

My husband and I decided to look for a new dog. I searched and searched and finally found the perfect dog on petfinders.com

We traveled 2 hours from our home to see her. when we got to the dog pound, the man working said that if we didn't take her, she was going to be put down. They didn't have the room.

She's a husky terrier mix. It was love at first sight. She was great with the kids, loved to play. We spent about 2 hours outside the pound playing with her making sure it was the right decision. We named her Scout and went home with her.

We finally got her home and she was fine!! We had her for about 4 months and one day she somehow got out the back door and went running...and running...and running. We never found her. The kids were devastated and I was just in shock.

About 1 month later, I was looking on our local animal shelters website (I had been looking every day) And there she was....sitting in a cage, looking very skinny and scared.

SO we did what any dog owner would do, we went and bailed her out...again!! They told us they found her 20 miles from our house!! How she ever survived I don't know.

But she's home now, and she's happy. Mutts are great dogs. They give your life so much spark. But watch for open back doors....you may be taking another trip to the pound!!
