I found MariGold when I was 10 years old. I saw her on a street just a little ways from my house. She was so skinny that you could see every bone in her body through her beautiful reddish brown fur. I was a devoted animal lover even at the young age of 10 so I automatically knew that she needed food and a home with people who loved her. I soon discovered that she had a litter of puppies under a man's house. I saw one of them shortly after where the others were supposed to be. When I asked the man about her and the puppies he told me he had shot all of them and if I didn't take the mother and remaining puppy he would shoot them also!(Then it was legal in that area I was living in for people to shoot dogs or any animal that entered onto their property).
I immediately coaxed her to come with me and discovered that she was a very friendly dog. Her puppy followed her down the street to my house where I told my parents the situation and they told my sister she could keep the puppy but I would have to find a home for the mother. I did not know too much about different breeds of dogs at the time and I had been watching shows about greyhounds a few days before I found her and I thought she was a greyhound mix, so I named her after a racing greyhound who was euthanized named MariGold.
I had a friend who lived a few streets away from me who came over and saw MariGold. He talked to his parents and they came over to look at her.
