Strange Tails

"When my 5 yr old alpha husky girl wants something from us humans she sends her faithful loyal subject (my 2 yr old husky/yellow lab boy) to tell the humans about it. She lays down behind him while he comes up to the human and pokes them with his paw til they get message. Then he looks back at her for further instructions and she must be sending them telepathically cuz he will continue til the dumb human finally understands what it is they want (out, eat or walk usually)."

"My Basset Hound wants a drink of water whenever anyone is taking a bath. He puts his paws on the side of the tub and waits expectantly for cupped hands to give him a drink!"

"My dog sleeps through the night with his head on a pillow.

He puts his front half of his body on the ottoman and his back legs are in a kneeling position, it looks like he is praying.

If he meets you, and really likes you he will gently climb on to you and sit in you lap with his head on your shoulder, licking your ears (he weighs 100 lbs.).

Sometimes when he pees he will start walking and alternating which leg is raised.

He likes to lie down in the shower when he is hot. If we are sitting at a park bench he has to be sitting on the bench with me.

No matter what someone is doing in the house he must be involved or at least be told about what is going on, especially if we are trying to do some type of renovation project, he will just sit there watching curiously."

"I no longer live with my parents, but they've picked up a few strays along the way... a pair of beagles. One of them starts imitating the fire siren in town whenever it starts going off... howling as close to it as she can. Also, we used to have a HUGE husky/wolf hybrid... he was terrifying. Everyone was scared of this beast. Yet, everytime he heard a hawk or eagle cry, he'd run like crazy and hide under something. We can only guess he saw one grab a small animal one day and lived in fear of them ever since."

"One of my Greyhounds, Twist, licks bowls. We leave the dog food bowls down after the dogs eat and she pick them up, carry them over to her preferred licking area, and lay down lick away. When feeding time rolls around again there is a little grouping of bowls on the floor. She prefers metal bowls, although she will lick plastic ones, and she does lick other things, like the couch. I tried picking up the bowls and putting them away but she licked her own nose so much that she made a sore on her upper lip and I had to give her her bowls back.

She also makes eeh eeh noises when she lays down. She will circle like dogs do before they lay down, and make eeh, eeh, eeh, noises the whole time. There's nothing wrong with her, she just makes these noises. Sometimes she gets carried away and gets really loud, EEH, EEH, EEH! Her racing name was She's Twisted so I figure her weird habits are just par for the course."

"I have a 3 year old neutered female Labradore Retriever. She goes with me on all my trips and has developed a rather strange habit. Every time myself and my co-driver get a hotel room, she of course stays in the room with us. After we have settled down for the night and gone to bed she procedes to jump in bed with each of us and humps us until one of us reprimands her. She never does this at home, she only exhibits this behavior in a hotel room. Go figure..."
"Oscar will deliberately look out of the window and give a couple of barks. This, of course, sets off a chorus of barking dogs looking all around at what it is they're supposed to be barking at. Fang jumps off the couch to run to the window, and the sneaky Oscar takes his warmed-up spot. And licks his chops satisfactorily. And ignores Fang's indignant looks. And whumps his head on my lap. And rolls over for a well-deserved (so he thinks) belly-rub. Happiness is a warm sleepy puppy!"

"When my dog, a 35 pound cocker/sheltie mix, is feeling silly, she will grab a toy or a rawhide, roll over on her back and hold it in her mouth with her paws, freeze like that for a minute then play with the toy with her paws, while still on her back. She looks so goofy. I can't figure out how she can handle it like that for so long without dropping it. She also has a habit of perching on the steps of my porch with her back half sitting on on one step and her front half standing on the next lowest step. I guess a lot of dogs do that, but it's still cute!"

"I have a 1 1/2 year old 3/4 timber wolf/malamute hybrid. Bindy's favorite toys are kitchen towels and pot holders. She will take a pot holder and roam around the house looking for somewhere to hide it. When she finds a spot, she will roll the pot holder up and start pushing it into the spot she has chosen. I'm always finding them behind doors, under cabinets, anywhere there is a little space for her to put it in."

"Ralfy, our 5 year old cockapoo has had this habit for at least 3 years now.

When he goes out for his evening walk with his "daddy", he looks to his "mommy" first to get the "OK" to go without her and then he stands on his hind legs and holds her hand with his front paws and dances to the door to go out. Very comical to witness. When company is at our house and it's walk time, he will choose one of the ladies to do this with."
