Top 3 Choices in Dog "Work" for the Younger Set

Dog lovers come in all shapes, sizes, situations, and ages. If most of your time is taken up by attending school, there are still ways to be able to work with the animals you love so much. These are my favourite choices to get hands-on experience with dogs for teenagers and young adults.

1. Volunteering at Your Local Animal Shelter

There is always a need for shelter volunteers. Whether you will be walking the dogs and socializing them, cleaning out cages, or making vet trips and manning adoption booths, be assured you are giving a much needed service.

2. Dog-Sitting and Dog-Walking

For the dog lover, being a part-time caretaker to 'latchkey' dogs can be a rewarding job in many ways. Taking a couple of hours each day to walk and play with dogs whose humans are at work can be an ideal occupation for a student looking for opportunities to make extra cash. 'Word of mouth' referral will yeild better results than posters will, so be sure your services are worthy.

3. Groomer's Assistant

Check the local grooming salon; they might be hiring on a part-time basis. Your duties will likely be general clean-up, or maybe even shampooing the dogs.
