The Non-Sporting Group

AKC Dog Breed Groups & Classifications

From , former About.com Guide

The AKC (American Kennel Club), and indeed, every National Kennel Club and dog registry, classifies each dog breed based on its original function. This is a list of the Non-Sporting Group -

American Eskimo Dog

One of the few pure white purebreds (although cream shading is allowed), the American Eskimo Dog originally hails from around Switzerland, not the Americas as its name might suggest.

Bichons Frise

Boston Terrier

Boston Terriers are distinguished little gentlemen, dressed to impress in a short coat of contrasting colors. A small dog that should not weigh more than twenty-five pounds, the Boston Terrier is not fragile by any means. Generally well-adjusted and even-tempered, this intelligent dog makes a highly desirable companion, and doesn't carry the same reputation that most other terriers do.

Bulldog

The Bulldog is built like a concrete block - low to the ground, compact and dense (in muscles). His face and walk are unmistakable and can be seen in advertisements all over the globe. And this year he's wrestled away the tenth spot on the most popular dog breed list from the Miniature Schnauzer.

Chinese Shar-Pei

Chow Chow

Dalmatian

Finnish Spitz

French Bulldog

Keeshond
