Shaka- Great Dane X Rottwieler. X-large girl, around 130+ lbs. She was jet black and loved going swiming in the river behind my grandma's house.
Sarsha- Rottwieler X GSD. Medium to large dog, around 80 lbs,. She was a perfect cross between the two breeds, she truly got the best characteristics of both breeds. She did however, look more like a GSD.
How did you acquire your dogs?
The first puppy was given to my family by my uncle who got the puppy from a neighbor. The second puppy my father paid $45 for her. The third dog just attached her self to us. She was a product of the failed Massachusetts State Police K-9 breeding program.
Why did you choose them?
The first dog (JoJo) was taken in by us because my parents wanted a dog plus thought it would be a good idea to have me grow up with a dog. The second dog (Sarsha) was chosen by me because I wanted a dog. I wanted a Rottweiler but having no experience with the breed at the time I decided to find a mixed breed puppy in order to ease my way into the so-called breed type (indirectly).
Where is the best place to find a mixed breed dog?
Shelters, pounds, rescue, etc.
Why would you recommend a mixed breed dog?
There are so many dogs that need a home. Mix breeds are unique in the way they look and have one of a kind personality. It is also a good idea if down the road, one wants a pure bred dog that does well with an owner who has experience, to find a dog that is a mix. Example, If you want to someday own a Boxer (a breed whose exercise needs are extreme) it would be a good idea to find a dog or puppy that is half Boxer and half ?
What is special about your dog?
JoJo was just a loving kind and very girly dog. She followed me everywhere and even walked my friends and I to grade school every morning. A few times she wondered in the back entrance mid-day and I would have to call my parents to pick her up.
Sarsha the second mix breed I had, was wonderful and loved everybody, although she was food possessive with strangers. She also had her tail docked (it looked a bit funny) She was my little bear cub! ;o)
The third dog Shaka, named after the Zulu chief, was a cute X-large goof ball. When she ran she would gallop sideways.
