Baron was born May 4th, 2002 to "Duke and Randi". Baron's the first dog that I've ever raised 'on my own'. I did a lot of research on his breeds before I brought him home and after, and on training techniques etc. His favorite toys are his tennis balls and our Jolly Ball on a rope and his favorite treats are Alpo Prime Beef Burgers or Bananas.
How did you acquire your dog?
Last summer I worked in advertising at the newspaper in the city where I lived. There was an ad in the paper for "Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix pups", and I wanted a herding breed dog to work with on obedience and possibly agility. Baron fit the bill.
Why did you choose him?
There were two females (presumably, don't ask.) left and after running around, playing and watching the two, it came down to coloring. . . Baron had more white on him and seemed less timid.
Where is the best place to find a mixed breed dog?
Shelters are the best place if you live in a city or urban area. If you are in small towns (as I am) sometimes the best place is the newspaper or word of mouth.
Why would you recommend a mixed breed dog?
Mixed breed dogs often have the best qualities of the breeds that they come from. Two of my dogs are cross-bred, and one is a certified mutt (don't know her lineage =) ).
What is special about your dog?
Baron is the most beautiful, uniquely colored dog I've ever owned, with the blue merle pattern of his father. He's a lover of a dog--will give 'kisses' readily, and always wants to be with his person. He's smart as a whip, which I credit to his breeding, and responsive to commands.
