| DaneHost Shares Her Delightful Danes With Us |
She has almost perfect brindle markings. She has been shown in conformation and received two BOB (Best of Breed) and three reserve winners bitch. She hated the conformation ring so after five shows I retired her. I then started her in obedience (she'd already been obedience trained since she was a puppy something that's very important for all dogs but especially a giant breed)I started showing her in obedience trials and she managed to come away with a 3rd ,a 4th and 2 seconds and earn her Companion Dog title (CD).She was always the only Dane and went up against the more traditional obedience trial dogs. Cheyanne also has her AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC).
I had thought of breeding Cheyanne, but changed my mind even though she passed evaluation and all health tests with flying colors. I had her spayed and hope to continue on in obedience with her to earn her CDX. She is often used as the "extra" dog in CGC tests and she is used in demos for 4-H. She has been in many parades.
Hailey is my Dane puppy. She is a fawn and she will turn a year old on May 5th. She is currently 33" tall and 100lbs. She will grow more over the next year. Her registered name is Kahlua's Cherokee Spirit. She is a sweet heart, but more strong willed then Cheyanne. She is a "pet" Dane. I had her spayed. Her tail set is a bit off (she has a hook tail) and she lacks a nice mask. She is easy to train as are most Danes. She is really just getting started in her career. I'm in hopes to start her in Obedience trials this summer and she goes for her CGC test May 4th. She has been used a couple of times in 4-H demos already and has been in one parade.
Both of my girls love to ride and are very friendly. They like people and get along very well with other animals. Their favorite toys are "stuffies" (most Danes love stuffies) They are couch potatoes, much preferring to sleep upside down on the couch. They sleep on the bed at night. They eat out of raised dishes. They are spoiled rotten. they have tons of toys, get raw meaty bones, have winter jackets (Danes can't stand extreme heat or cold). They also have hats and bandanas. They are just very special dogs. :)
How did you acquire your dogs?
I got my current dogs from a breeder.
Why did you choose him/her, if you choose him/her?
My older Dane I picked from the females in the litter. I picked her because of conformation and temperament as well as personality. My puppy I didn't get to choose her.
Why did you decide to have a purebred dog?
I decided to have a purebred dog because I wanted a Great Dane.I've always loved them and had 2 rescue Danes before my current Danes.
Were you looking for any specific qualities?
If so, what were/are they? I was looking for good conformation, easy going sweet temper, longevity in the lines and good health.Along with those I was looking for brindles and fawns.
Where is the best place to find a purebred dog?
You should never look for a purebred in the news papers or the pet stores. Contact the local kennel clubs or breed clubs or go to some shows to locate responsible, reputable breeders. The AKC website offers info on breed and kennel clubs by state (www.akc.org ) A purebred should, no matter if pet only or show, only be bought from a responsible, reputable breeder who does health testing and breeds for health, conformation, temperment and longevity and guarantees their pups. Also one who screens potential buyers very carefully. If you are looking for a nice purebred you can also try a breed rescue, one that will carefully try to match the right dog with the right forever home.
What is special about your dog?
Besides size :) , Danes have a very winning almost human-like personality, they are big gentle giants they love being with people and don't make good outdoor dogs. They are very smart, almost too smart, they are thinkers and often decide that doing things a different way maybe easier or better. They are easy to train (but as I said may look for an easier option then how mom wants to do things). Despite their size they are very graceful, elegant dogs.
