Forum Rules

If you have questions or just want to share a story about your favourite furry friend, feel free to post on the forum! Posting is a great way to make new friends and meet other dog lovers as well as get great advice from dog experts.

Interaction on the forum does require registration, but you can register easily, and best of all, it's free!
Use the Member Center here: http://membership.about.com/ to create your own username and password, and join the discussions.

Please feel free to jump right in, but remember there are rules to keep this community running smoothly.

The Rules of the Dogs Forum

1. No personal attacks (ie no namecalling, no mindreading)

2. No ad hominem attacks (attacking a poster's spelling, grammar, age, education, or language)

By this same token, people need to remember that posts inundated with poor spelling, no punctuation, grammar, and constant "chatspeak" (ie: "U" for "you", "4" for "for", etc) make a post very difficult to read.

Please take a little extra time to proofread, or type out the post using proper English. There are visitors from all over the world, and while sometimes a poster's English may not great, an effort makes things easier to read for everybody.

3. This forum promotes Responsible Dog Ownership!

4. Religion and Politics are not Appropriate. In order to accomodate members of many different cultures and religions, we do not discuss religion or politics on the dog boards.

5. Keep an Open Mind. Nobody knows everything there is to know about dogs.

6. No over-generalizations ( ie, "everyone in group A is..". No we're not picky about being unintentional.)

7. Problems? If you have an issue with anything on the forum, you can email me at dogs.guide@about.com and I will do my best to address it.

8. This forum is heavily moderated.

9. Feel free to use the ignore button - it's there for a reason! The "Ignore" button is located by clicking the little "options" link at the bottom of each post.

10. Use common sense. Remember that there is a person behind the screen you are replying to and we all have feelings and opinions. This is supposed to address debateable material, not to "prove" you are right, and not to hurt the feelings of others. If you wish to do either of those things I'm sure there are forums that will give you the opportunity.

If you are angry when you want to post, read your response... then delete it! Come back a few hours or days later when you aren't angry anymore.

11. The forum host(s) have the powers to delete and edit offensive posts, as well as remove posting privileges and access to the forum. Don't make us use them.

12. Internet copyright laws are getting stricter and stricter. For my own protection, I will not allow copyrighted material to be posted unless you hold the copyright or license to that work. Complete copyright rules are here: Copyright Rules

Thank you and let's have fun and be respectful!
