What breed of dog is best for first-time owners?

by Krista Mifflin

Question: What breed of dog is best for first-time owners?

Answer: A good, laid-back dog for first time owners would be a labrador, poodle, or a golden retriever.

I encourage you to ask breeders, join an email group on the breed of your choice. You can also post this question on the Dog Park Forum. This does require registration, but it is free.

It is a good idea to provide a few details about your life as well. Do you live in apartment?
Do you like excersize?
Do you like big dogs or small?
All these things will help in finding the right breed of dog for you.
