Dog Breed of the Week: West Highland White Terrier
Wednesday June 24, 2009
The West Highland White Terrier, or "Westie" is a compact dog with a big personality. Full of life and eager to please, this breed makes a great companion. Westies are ideal for people who want a small but active dog. Plus, the breed is considered hypoallergenic because it sheds very little, making it ideal for those who suffer from allergies.
What is your favorite thing about the West Highland White Terrier? Westie lovers, share your stories and photos!

My all-time favorite dog was a wonderful Westie boy named Brodie. From the time he was a little pup, I realized he was a true “old soul” and he was very calm and sweet. Just loved him tremendously and was devastated when he died way too young at age 10. He had issues that are all too common to other Westies: allergies, skin issues and Cushings. But through it all, he was a brave little guy and provided me with much happiness.
Our neighbor has a Westie named Jack, and we really like him. So cute and so sweet! Jack’s human says that Jack is a very good boy and very easy to live with.
Our Westie boy is named Doc, he is my husband and I best friend. So sweet, demands attention, loves to play. Doc was a rescue, so we did not know him as a puppy, we found Doc at age 3, he is now 9. A very happy boy! We just love him! If you want a dog this is the one to get, nothing “sissy” about him, all boy.
My husband and I have two wonderfull Westies named Lacy and Leena. They are 5 and 6 years old and just like babies to us. They have the same dad and different mom’s. Easy with kids and people, very disciplined and so loving!
