Dog Breed of the Week: Papillon
The Papillon is a delightful little dog with a dainty appearance. This breed is sturdier than it looks, but should still be handled with care. Full of life, this breed was named after the French word for butterfly because of it's signature erect ears. You may not know this, but some Papillons actually have floppy ears.
If you know Papillons, than you know what a pleasure it can be to spend your time with them. Friendly and active, this breed is very interactive and affectionate. With proper training and care, it can be a wonderful addition to all kinds of households. Are you a fan? Tell us more about the lovable Papillon.
Wanted: Dog Pictures! They can be of any breed or mix, just tell me a little bit about them and you might see them show up on the About Dogs site.

I have a 11 month old Papillon named Maggie and she is the light of my life! She’s so full of energy and love!
I have a 12 year old and he is the smartest, sweetest Dog you ever want to meet. He gets along with everyone that he knows. He plays like he is still a puppy all the time. He plays with his two brothers the Yorkies, also very protective. Very protective of me also,(he has to be with me at all times)has been that way since I got him at the age of six months old. It is like have a child all over again. He knows what you are saying to him all the time. He is the happiest little Dog that can be
P.S. He was a Rescue Dog
I have 2 Paps and they are the best. Full of energy and mischief.
Isabella is a delight. We got her when she was 4 months old and she is now 1 year. She has us well trained. She plays well with our older lab mix and our younger cats. She thinks the cats are toys and trys to carry them around the house. The weigh 3-4 lbs more then the dog. What a joy!!!!
We have 3 papillons; a 10 year old female, a 2 year old female and a 4 1/2 month old male. They each have their own unique personalities, but are wonderful to live with. They are smart, love to play, but also love to settle in our laps.
Paps are great!
My pap Honey lived a happy 12 1/2 yrs. She was very playful and smart. We miss her every day. I will be getting another. This breed is very special and unique. I took my dog many places and she was well behaved. She liked people more than other dogs! These dogs are failry eay to care for and tend to follow the lifestyle of their owners.
I just adopted my first mixed pap. She is a little timid but very sweet. I think she is a wonderful addition to our family. Very sweet face.
The Papillon is mischievous. He likes happenings and will create them – invent games, see to the running of the household and participate in child rearing. He is elegant, proud and always self aware. I have seen my five pounds Alphie switch from bratty behaviour to show dog comportment – simply because humans were watching ! He always adapted to the occasion – anywhwere – planes, restaurant, shopping malls – anywhere!

We have a 13 week old femle papillon, named Leah. She is sweet, full of energy, stubborn, self assured, beautiful, naughty and nice, very smart and at this time very much like a 2 year old child. We are still potty training but overall, it’s going pretty good. If you like a dog FULL of energy in a small package and never want to be alone again, a papillon is for you. She or he will follow you to the moon and back.
