The Maltese is a soft little white dog with a gentle yet brave disposition. At under seven pounds, this toy breed is often seen as a "purse pooch" - something these dogs likely enjoy. The Maltese is a playful and energetic dog that bonds closely with its owner. The breed can be traced back to ancient times, where it was the beloved companion of royalty and nobility. Today's Maltese is just as pampered and is also relatively popular.

I know there are plenty of people who think the Maltese is one of those "yip-yap" dogs. While they can be vocal and prissy and times, this is a brave little breed that is tougher than it looks! I used to love owning large dogs, but since we live in town now, we own little dogs. We have a Maltese male and a Maltese-Poodle mix female. Neither dog is yappy or prissy. Actually, they bark very little. Neither dog minds being groomed, but they dearly love getting dirty playing outside. For that reason we keep their hair “puppy cut” instead of long. I find the Maltese breed to be very loving and loyal little companions. They are perfect pets for our pre-teen daughter to cuddle and love.

My Maltese is loving and loyal and far from prissy! He loves playing outside and getting dirty and gives my hunting dogs a run for their money. I never thought I would enjoy this breed as much as I do, but I’m hooked! This is a great little dog.

My maltese is a total joy! She is full of energy and always ready for play and lots of cuddles. Maltese is a small breed, but my little one makes up for it with her upbeat personality. I can’t say enough about this little dog…I will forever be a maltese owner.

Fritz was 16 years old when he passed away last year – I’ll never get over it and I miss him everyday. He was born with a heart murmur but you’d never have known it. He was the bravest, strongest, and most loyal friend I’ll ever have. He would have given his life for me. His love and dedication to me was his main motivation in life, and I made sure he knew I felt the same towards him – daily. The Maltese breed is truly amazing. He was the most beautiful thing I ever saw!
