Dog Breed of the Week: Sussex Spaniel
This week's featured breed is none other than the Sussex Spaniel! Stump, a Sussex Spaniel, was named Best in Show of this year's Westminster Dog Show on Tuesday night (after recently coming out of retirement). He actually won the same title back in 2004, but stopped competing after battling a serious illness. Miraculously, Stump pulled through and has gone on to become the most senior dog to ever win the WKC Dog Show. Amazingly, he is 10 years old - Congratulations, Stump!
Sussex Spaniels are not the most popular or well-known dog breed, but it is definitely a breed to get to know! These are adorable and loyal dogs with very kind dispositions. Are you a fan of this underrated dog breed? Help educate the rest of us about the lovely Sussex Spaniel! As always, your photos are more than welcome!
2/12/09 Correction: In 2004, Stump actually won Best of Group (Sporting Group) - not Best in Show. Thanks to Kathy Callaghan for calling this error to my attention!

Stump is absolutely adorable. I love this breed!
Correction! Stump did not win “Best In Show” in 2004 – but won Best in his “class” or category in the Westminster Show!
Thanks Kathy – my mistake, you are absolutely right. I have added an addendum to my post with the correction.
Thanks again, and thanks for reading!
