dachshund dog breed dachshund face Whether you like them or not, many people agree that Dachshunds are funny-looking dogs. With their short little legs and long bodies, I suppose that is understandable. Personally, I find them irresistible! Have you ever watched a Dachshund run? Enough said. They are also quite affectionate dogs - just look at those sweet eyes!

Often called Doxies, wiener dogs, hot dogs, or weenies, these hound dogs originated in Germany as skilled hunters. Though the breed still possesses the skills to work and hunt, the Dachshunds are better know today as one of the world's most popular dog breeds. Most Dachshunds I have known have a bit of a rebellious streak, but I think that makes them even cuter - just remember the importance of proper training! Are you a Dachshund lover? I have two beautiful loving Dachshunds at home. Abbie is 21 and Brittany is 18. They are my babies and both spoiled rotten. My babies haven’t had many health issues other than Brittany and her slipped disc. She had surgery and is fine now. The two of them are both so funny and loving that I couldn’t imagine my life without them. Doxies Rule!!!

My mother loved dachshunds and so do I! They are just so doggone cute! Who can resist those big brown eyes? I miss my darling Princess and I don’t know what I would do without my beloved Raymond. Life is so much sweeter and much more fun with a dachshund in it!

Being raised by Doxies, I told my significant other that they are super intelligent. Little did she know how much. We now have 3 year olds – Hansi (A “Tweenie”) and Fritzi (a mini). These boys have Mommy wrapped around their little paws! When we adopted them at 6 weeks, it only took them 3 days and they have been sleeping in the bed ever since.

I am owned by 3 dachshunds, 1 male standard black/tan 9yrs, 1 female tweenie 8 yrs and 1 female mini 7yrs. They are all recues and have slept in my bed from Day 1. The male thinks he is the boss and trys to boss me around. The best way to discribe the dachshund personality is that a dachshund is trained only when a dachshund decides to be trained.

We have 3 dachshunds, aka “the pack”. 10, 11, and 14 years old. They are our security alarms, our bed partners, and they are “family”. All have totally different personalities as do humans. Their dedication to our home and property is amazing. If you have not had one, try one.

This is to Paula with the 18 and 21 year old doxies. I am shocked at the ages of these dogs. I have always had this breed and never have they lived past the age of 10-12 if we were lucky. How is is that yours have such long lives?? Im very interested. I love and take the best care of my dogs, but maybe Im missing something?

gotta love those doxies…I have one almost 3 now, Bowie aka little man, a mini. He loves to pay with the cats and has a funny habit of putting his toys in the food dish while he’s eating. Sleeps in the bed…you bet, but a bit of a blanket hog.

To Julie. I’m not sure why it’s so unusual, but I just feed them right and love them a lot. I make sure they see a vet reguarly to head off any problems. They sleep with me every night and I carry them up and down stairs now. They are no longer as playful as they once were, but are still fiesty at times. I guess it’s like humans. Some just live longer than others.

Yes, dachshunds own you. Mine are 18 and 14 and have been in our bed from 6 weeks on. They travel well and never does a day go by when they remind you how important they are to the household. I can’t recommend strongly enough how important it is to give these little kids Glucosamine as they get older for their backs. These little guys are always right in the center of things when something is happening in our house – it’s commical to see the 14 year old still chasing the cats around.

My much loved Abbie passed away yesterday while I was at work. Her sister Brittany and brothers Buddy and Buddha are roaming the apartment looking for her and wondering why I am such a mess crying constantly. The one thing I can be happy about is that she wasn’t sick before this or in pain. It looked like she just went to sleep on her favorite pillow in the kitchen after I left and then went to be with her Grandma in Heaven. She was here with me for 21yrs and 3mths and will be in my heart forever.
