Marley Mania!
Marley & Me has been talked about a lot recently - that is probably because of the movie. But well before the box office winner was released, there was a book by John Grogan. Marley & Me is the autobiographical story of the Grogan family and their dog Marley, a 97-pound Labrador Retriever with a wild streak. The book became a bestseller as people everywhere fell in love with the slobbery, hyperactive and mischievous Lab.
Marley & Me is really something special. It made me laugh out loud, but it also brought tears to my eyes. This book moved me - it reminded me a lot of the relationship I have with my own dog. Perhaps it will do the same for you. Check out my review, then read the book. You can even do your own review of the book for others to read!
As for the movie - I plan too see that soon. I only hope it does the book justice. Stay tuned for my review of Marley & Me, the movie!

Before you pile the kids in the car and head off to see this movie, you may want to read the book. It is very sad, and not necesarily something for the whole family to see.
The movie is fantastic! but yes its very real as well I suggest reading the book first also.FYI it took 22-27 Yellow Labby dogs to do all the different scenes. I went home and hugged my Yellow Lab and just cried…shes 12 going on 13. Love your babies!
Loved the movie but sad ending. It took 22-27 Yellow Labs to do the movie.. I went home and hugged my 12 yr old Yellow Labby.Read the book first!
I binge read the book in one day as it was just too goof to put down.
It is a definite must read
It is a wonderful book. Wanted to take my young nephews to the movie but didn’t cuz of the ending. Its funny how a dog we have never met can touch so many lives. Love your pets.
I loved the book and took my Mom to the movie just after Christmas. I agree that the movie is probably not a good idea for young children because the ending is quite sad. And I am also sad to say that the movie doesn’t come close to doing the book justice. The book is definetley better!
The book was just wonderful lets say the movie is so visual! I agree with others watch this movie for kids who are too sensitive or gee maybe for the 12 and over crowd. When I went to see the film, not a dry eye the last 45 minutes! Lots of sobs when I walked out of the movie ~very emotional myself, this poor young boy had his head buried in his brothers coat just sobbing away! The movie is great for adults and kids who can understand euthenasia and the life of dogs! it hit me very hard even having read the book I have a girl Marley haha! Her name is sandi and she is actually the same wieght as marely and just could be his sister! She is 6 now so it does put things in perspective! And my first pregnancy was a miscarriage so much much relating for me in this movie! I loved the book of course much more than the movie. The movie was with humorous times and sad times it is well worth seeing if your able to handle it. Seems to me it just hits us hard that dogs lives are shorter than humans lives I guess its the way dogs give us such unconditional love we just treasure dogs and forever will!
I had my second miscariage in July of 2007. I have two dogs and have always found books about dogs/animals helped me to deal with pain. That summer I found the book Marley and Me at the store while shopping. I poured through the pages with laughter and tears in my eyes and my heart healed alittle that summer.I had a son Raiden on Nov.3rd of 2008, it’s hard to get to the movies but I wait impatiently for it to come to video and as I do I kiss my son and two dogs often. Thank you Mr. Grogan, you helped me get through a very painful summer.

Loved them both! Though I was disappointed the way the movie ended (not that I didn’t know that Marley passes away). I thought they would end the movie with John returning to the office and writing his column, which lead to the book. Not ending it with the burial of Marley and then running the credits. In that respect, I felt it made a sad situation even worse.
Read the book first, loved it , laughed outloud and cried. Movie was good and enjoyed it, cried also.

It could be too hard for the really young to understand when a loved family dog dies.
I want to thank all of you for giving a warning about the end of the movie. I was going to take my daughter to see it, but I decided not to after reading your comments. Our own dog is almost 11 years old, and he is starting to slow down a lot. My daughter is a very sensitive child and this would hit too close to home for her.
Loved the book (read it first & couldn’t put it down) and the movie was great! (4 rescued dogs of my own). Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston played the book characters which identified with great emotion and humor. They showed their love and care for Marly the way Grogan wrote about in the book. The movie had flash through some scenes which did not give the enough time to digest or enjoy the full humor. The ending is very sad as it was in the book. It might be difficult to read or view especially for children; but I have gone through that ending scene 4 times over the pat 25 years. It’s not easy. I still miss them and I still think about the happy times and sadly about those last moments with each our dogs. They were all family to us.
